For all have sinned and fall short of your glory Lord,
From the right path without looking back we detoured.
Your name we blasphemed with our tongues untamed.
Your love and grace we misused without being ashamed.
Starved of mercy, by sin we were imprisoned, blinded and enslaved.
Our souls entrapped we longed not for freedom,
Pleasures of this world at heart with no sense of wisdom.
Like a tree with weak roots, we easily got uprooted by earthly forces.
A great appearance we had but deep down, weathered roses.
So much wickedness greater than Sodom and Gomorrah we possessed.
Yet from your highest throne with merciful eyes you pitied us,
Not mercy but destruction we deserved with our ungrateful lives,
Punishment was the expectation designed for our evil hearts.
Death being the reward of disobedience like Noah’s descendants,
Could have been fair more than our souls owning deepest scars.
‘But what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
What are human beings that you care for them?’ asked David
That despite our shortfalls You still call us ‘your children’
And made us rulers over the works of your mighty hands,
Blessed us more that our cups greatly overflow?
For you oh! Lord so loved the world,
That when we deserved death, you brought light to this world.
That from darkness we ought to refrain and walk towards light.
At just the right time Christ died for the ungodly,
Your unfailing love Lord, that if we believe in Him there is no chance to perish.
Amazing love that no human possesses, deep like an ocean.
You promise us prosperity not disaster, a future we hope for.
Mother to the motherless and father to the fatherless you are,
For you never abandon nor leave us even if we do,
Indescribable are you, God of the rich and the poor.
Indeed, you never change but still remain the same.
‘The Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end’ I have heard,
We therefore fear nothing, you’ve made us not tails but heads,
So we trample on those snakes and scorpions by the authority you granted.
For the light we have seen, through Jesus Christ whom for us died.
Awesome God! You I call, the creator of heaven and earth.Date: 29 August 2020
